Pain Point
When a user joined a session, there was no clear pathway to become an active participant.
Research
Compare onboarding processes of various online video call softwares to identify common patterns.
Solution
Create an onboarding process that follows common UX patterns to prepare participants for a session.
Various video call softwares such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom were reviewed in order to establish common patterns. The patterns that were discovered are as follows:

• Separate onboarding window or pop-up.
• Live video feed of the user.
• Audio feedback testing for the user.
• Option to change status of video and audio feeds.
• Choice to either join or leave an active session.
UX Research
Identify Common Patterns
In order to create a solution for this pain point, the existing user experience had to integrate common patterns that exist in other video softwares. This allows users to interact more intuitively with the product. The following describes some of these adjustments:

• A "join" button was added. Previously users would have to double-click either the audio or visual icons to enter a live session. Without doing so, they would simply observe the session and be unable to participate.
• The choice to join as an observer was added in the onboarding pop-up.
• An option to enter the session with pre-selected audio and visual settings was implemented. Previously the user would join a session with live feed of both audio and visual.
• The option to select a preferred input was added in order to eliminate any technical difficulties a user may have with their audio or visual feeds.
• A short description of the function of the pop-up window was added for clarity. This provides context to any users that may have accidentally clicked on a live session.
Solution
Onboarding Pop-Up
